Run #230
I got up this morning and contemplated taking the day off to rest but I saw that the temperature was only 68 so I decided to head out. Can't afford to skip days in the 60's this time of year. So I was on the road at 5:54 and headed north on the canal. I decided to shoot for a quick pace today to see how fast I could do a 3 mile run. So I kept the pace pretty quick and added 4 sprints of about a minute each. Body felt good today with no pain and I ended the 3 miles in 27:36. I am certain this is the fastest 3 mile run yet; it is a 9:12 pace. Weighed in for the 3rd straight day at 195.6. Tomorrow will likely be a day off simply because I have not taken a rest day yet this week. | | Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 | | 5:53 pm |
Run #229
Out the door this morning at 5:52, temperature 75. Body feeling a little better than yesterday so this makes two days in a row it has improved. It is still a bit difficult trying to get everything ticking this early though. Started off slow, then sped up a bit but just to a normal pace. North on the canal and then off to the orange grove area and back home. Completed 3.5 miles in 34:02. The mornings are getting warmer but the air is dry. As long as it stays dry, it is manageable. Weight stayed up there at 195.6. | | Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 | | 5:21 pm |
Run #228
I got a little later start today due to my body is just too stiff and sore in the early hours. I was out the door at 6:21, temperature 77. As I got going, my body was still a bit stiff but all in all, it felt better than yesterday. I decided to do a new route today. I headed up to Adobe and then east as if I was doing a typical north canal run, but then I headed south on the canal to University and then west on University. I ran down to Creston and then north to the retention basin and circled this area for one rotation. I kept up a pretty good pace today but the run was only 2.6 miles. Finished in 24:53. Weight is on the upward march again at 195.6. | | Monday, May 14th, 2012 | | 5:54 pm |
Run #227
Headed out today at 6:08, temperature already at 72. My body felt kind of like Saturday, sore and stiff so it was a sluggish run. Did the 3 mile canal run in 30:25, much slower than I have been running. Not sure why I have fallen back a bit. Weight up a touch to 194.2. | | Saturday, May 12th, 2012 | | 5:59 pm |
Run #226
Out the door this morning at 6:28, temperature 66. A little late in the morning this time of year if I want to get a long run in as it will be plenty hot later. I headed north on the canal and soon realized I wouldn't be setting any records today. My body was fatigued and not responding as it should. Then, I started experiencing some pain on the left side from the very lower back down the leg which really prevented me from pushing the pace. I got off the canal on McDowell and headed east and then south on Lindsay until I reached the canal again and then headed home. Only did 7.5 miles today in 1:20:21. Weight remained at 191.4. Stats for the week: Total runs: 5 Total miles: 22.1 Total time: 3:40:08 Pace: 9:57 Avg distance: 4.42 miles Avg time: 44:01 2012 miles: 355.5 Weight loss for the week: 3.8 Weight loss for the year: 2.8 Total weight loss: 26.2 | | Friday, May 11th, 2012 | | 3:06 pm |
Run #225
Out the door today at 5:50, temperature 66. Warmer than yesterday but much drier and a better condition for running. Headed south on the canal as far as University and then back north. The advantage of this route is that I have minimal chance for traffic delays. I was keeping it fairly slow but decided to do some sprints, about 4 one minute sprints. Body is still practically pain free. Ended up doing 3.1 miles in 29:00 flat. Nice thing is I weighed in today at a record low 191.4. | | Thursday, May 10th, 2012 | | 8:02 am |
Run #224
I skipped my run yesterday due to the lingering chest cold. We had an unexpected and unpredicted storm roll through yesterday afternoon. Strong winds followed by drenching rains between 4:00 and 6:00 PM. Quite rare for this time of year here. This all resulted in a little different feel for this morning's run. Out the door at 6:00 AM, temperature 61. Temp was similar to what it has been lately but the air was very saturated which made it feel much different. I headed north on the canal. The canal was wet and muddy to a degree but not bad enough to where I had to avoid it. Body feeling good still and I kept up a good pace, steady today with no sprints. Ended up taking that extra section up to McKellips and back which is the 4.5 mile run. But the humidity in the air left me a little drained by the end. Finished in a time of 43:25 and weighed in at 193.2. | | Tuesday, May 8th, 2012 | | 5:25 pm |
Run #223
Headed out the door this morning at 5:57, temperature 60. Kept up a pretty good pace heading north on the canal and then after 7 minutes or so decided to add some sprints. Did 4 total of a minute or a little less each. My body is still feeling good with really no pain anywhere. Still nice cool mornings. Today was a little overcast with thin high clouds. At Brown Rd I headed east and then north on 32nd st and around the orange grove and then north on the alleyway. From there I headed back home via the canal eventually. Finished 4 miles in 38:04. Most of my short and medium length runs are now coming in under 10 minute paces. Weighed in today at 194.4. | | Monday, May 7th, 2012 | | 10:13 pm |
Run #222
So after a few days off I was back out there today. Headed out at 6:10 this morning, temperature 62. The rest did my body good. No pain to speak of and I did the 3 mile run north on the canal. Steady pace with no sprints. I finished the run in 29:18. Weight was down a little to 193.2. | | Friday, May 4th, 2012 | | 5:29 pm |
Run #221
So Wednesday was an off day due to work and Thursday I caught a head cold and skipped the run as well. I am still a little under the weather but headed out today at 6:07, temperature 64. I decided on a short fast run today since my body was not up to par. Did 2 miles north on the canal in 18:35. Other than the cold, the body felt good structurally. Weighed in at 195.2. Update: this ended up being the last run of the week....I continued to be under the weather plus some other priorities prevented me from running. Stats for the week: Total runs: 3 Total miles: 10 Total time: 1:35:26 Pace: 9:32 Avg distance 3.3 miles Avg time: 31:30 2012 miles: 333.4 Weight gain for the week: 3.4 Weight gain for the year: 1.0 Total weight loss: 22.4 | | Tuesday, May 1st, 2012 | | 3:52 pm |
Run #220
Headed out today at 5:55 AM, temperature 67 again. I did the 4.5 mile run north on the canal today but some of those leg pains returned, particularly the quads, upper thigh area. I ran a bit slower than yesterday, partly due to the pain and partly due to the fact it was a longer distance. Not much of interest to point out today other than it was bright and sunny and dry. I'm not looking forward to the hotter temperatures just around the corner. Finished the 4.5 miles in 44:36. Weight up to 196.6 today, 4.8 lb gain in 2 days despite running 8 miles. Tomorrow is a day off due to work requirements. | | Monday, April 30th, 2012 | | 5:56 pm |
Run #219
Out the door at 6:08 today, temperature 67. My body is still feeling good; no real pain anywhere and the running form continues to improve. I think after about almost a year since I heard about chi running, I have it down pretty good. The last few things I was concentrating on was a higher hill kick.... they say you should try to be a but kicker...keep the heels high and the knees low.....and I have learned how not to use my quads to maintain my posture. I ran and a pretty fast pace today, north on the canal and then west on Brown, north on 32nd st, around the orange grove and back home. It was the 3.5 mile run in 32:15. That is quite fast for me, 9:12 per mile. As expected, the weight did creep up a bit to 194.2. | | Saturday, April 28th, 2012 | | 12:49 pm |
Run #218
Headed out today at 6:22 for my long run of the week. Temperature at the start was 63, bright and sunny already with no breeze. Body is feeling about as good as ever and I am running south on the canal, medium pace and no sprints. I had no plan in mind today, I just wanted to get out and then see how my body reacted. The pain in the upper thigh has diminished somewhat since I have been concentrating on trying to keep the upper legs loose and relaxed. I ran as far south as Southern and then turned around and headed back. Luckily, I had only 1 small traffic delay today. I continued past the area where I would exit to go home and continued north as far as Lindsay and then back home. Total run was just 8.4 miles in 1:32:06. I did not map this out ahead of time and was estimating I had gone about 9 miles but I was off by a bit. Checked the temperature when I finished and it had climbed to 71. The good news is that I weighed in today at 191.8. This is a record low for this journal. If history repeats itself though, I will be up a few pounds by Monday. Stats for the week: Total runs: 4 Total miles: 19.2 Total time: 3:16:33 Pace: 10:14 Avg distance: 4.8 Avg time: 49:08 2012 miles: 323.4 Weight loss for the week: 4.8 Weight loss ytd: 2.4 Total weight loss: 25.8 | | Thursday, April 26th, 2012 | | 5:13 pm |
Run #217
The weather forecast had been predicting an 80 percent chance of rain today but by last night they had reduced it to a 60 percent chance. Still, I was hoping for a run in the rain which is rare in these parts. I checked the forecast this morning and the chance is now at 30 percent. I was out the door at 6:06 today, temperature 75, cloudy and quite breezy. Unfortunately, no rain and the 75 felt kind of warm and probably the warmest run since October. I headed north on the canal and was feeling pretty good. A little early leg pain went away and I kept up a good pace. Did the 4.5 mile run today. I hit the half way point at 22:01 but when I turned around, I had a pretty strong head wind to fight the rest of the way. No sprints, just a steady pace but I slowed down somewhat for the return home, partly due to the headwind and partly due to fatigue. I finished the 4.5 miles in 45:10 and weighed in at 194.0. Tomorrow is a day off due to work requirements. We did get about a 20 minute thunderstorm around 10:30 this morning. | | Wednesday, April 25th, 2012 | | 2:01 pm |
Run #216
I had too many things going on yesterday so I skipped the run but headed out today at 6:59, temperature 72. Headed south to University and then back north on the canal. My body was feeling good today and I kept up a pretty good pace plus I added 4 medium speed sprints of about a minute each. I ended up doing a 5K or 3.1 miles in 29:10. It was a little warmer today but cloudy. It will soon be getting even more hot but usually, I can run early morning well into June before it gets too bad. Weighed in today at 194.4. | | Monday, April 23rd, 2012 | | 12:38 pm |
Run #215
So we were out of town for a few days so I did not get the chance to run; a nice 4 day break. I was out the door today at 6:11 AM and the temperature was 69. The rest did me good as my body was feeling no pain. I headed up the canal at a steady pace and didn't really fluctuate much in the speed. I was doing what would have been a typical 3 mile run but due to car issues today, I was going to have to swing by the school to get the car that my wife drove. But when I got there, she had not arrived yet so I turned around and headed toward home. But before I got there, she came around the corner. So I stopped and got in the car and drove her to work. This ended up being a 3.2 mile run in 30:07. Weighed in at 194.4. | | Wednesday, April 18th, 2012 | | 12:24 pm |
Run #214
Got a better night's sleep last night and I headed out this morning at 6:12, temperature 60. But although the body was rested, I was experiencing the thigh pain again today so I just did 3 miles on the canal in 30:38. The pain caused the slow time. Weighed in at 196.6. Heading out of town for a few days and I don't know if I'll have the opportunity to run so this could be the last run this week. Update: this ended up being the last run of the week. Stats are below: Total runs: 3 Total miles: 8.0 Total time: 1:19:50 Pace: 9:58 Avg distance: 2.67 miles Avg time: 26:38 2012 miles: 304.2 Weight gain for the week: 2.6 Weight gain for the year: 2.4 Total weight loss: 21.0 | | Tuesday, April 17th, 2012 | | 4:55 pm |
Run #213
A sluggish morning today, I almost didn't run. I got to bed late last night and did not sleep well, maybe 5.5 hours total. So I had no energy but headed out anyway at 6:40, temperature 62. I limited the run to a 2 mile canal run as I did not have the strength for more. Finished in a time of 19:55. Weight today up a little to 196.8. | | Monday, April 16th, 2012 | | 5:29 pm |
Run #212
After the long run on Saturday, I was not sure how my body was going to feel on Monday, but it recovered pretty well. I was out the door at 6:27 today, temperature 53. Took it easy today, a 3 mile canal run with ideal conditions. Early morning sun was up, crisp cool air with no wind. Finished the 3 miles in 29:17. Lately, my weight has been escalating on Monday's from my Saturday reading but it stayed at 194.0 today. | | Saturday, April 14th, 2012 | | 1:40 pm |
Run #211
Took Friday off as expected. We had a storm front pass through overnight with some strong winds but only a tiny bit of rain. It made for a cool morning and I headed out at 7:46, temperature 49. I hadn't decided on a route yet for this run but headed north on the canal and figured I would make the decision as I went. First, I decided to run non stop today, no walking breaks and I never know how my body will react but I am feeling pretty good and running a little too fast for a Saturday run. I slow down a bit about the 2 mile mark but am still feeling good. I make the decision to take the canal all the way to Val Vista and then switch canals and head southeast. If successful, this will be a 11.5 mile run. I did a little reading trying to find out why I am experiencing the pain in the quads and am trying to concentrate and engage my abdominal muscles and not my upper legs. I am also focused on keeping the knees low and my heels high and it seems to be working as the pain was lessened somewhat today. I was able to finish the full 11.5 miles running the entire way which is a new record for a continuous run. Weather stayed cool the entire run and was only 53 when I finished. I hit a strong headwind for the last 1/3 of the run. The wind had been calm up until then. My time was 2:04:21 and I weighed in today at 194.0, same as last Saturday. Stats for the week: Total runs: 5 Total miles: 27.1 Total time: 4:40:52 Pace: 10:21 Avg distance: 5.42 miles Avg time: 56:10 2012 miles: 296.2 Weight loss for the week: 0 Weight loss for the year: 0.2 Total weight loss: 23.6 |
